Minipops was a deeply unsettling 1980s British TV show where kids would dress up as pop stars and sing songs. Bizarrely, the Minipops kids were allowed to release a flabbergasting total of nine albums.
They were the first artist to release a Strawberry Switchblade cover. At least you know it’s going to get better from here.

1995
The 10 inch single is on blue vinyl and plays at 33 rpm.
The band’s name is spelled MariMari Rythmkiller Machinegun on this release.
MariMari Rhythmkiller Machinegun’s debut release featured three radically different reworkings of Since Yesterday with Japanese lyrics;
Since Yesterday (Original Ver.)
Goodnight Darling Ooh (Since Yesterday Alternative Ver. #1)
Crying Babe, Since Yesterday (Since Yesterday Alternative Ver. #2)
The vinyl only features the first two versions, the CD has all three.
The Original Version is an acoustic jazzy groove.
Play on YouTube:
The 9 minute Goodnight Darling Ooh is a floating atmosphere that borrows more than a little from the early bit of the Velvet Underground’s Heroin.
Play on YouTube:
Crying Babe, Since Yesterday is a lo-fi psychedelic ambient vibe owing little to the original song.

As if these three versions weren’t enough, in 2000 they recorded yet another markedly different version as single.

At the time of release, Bland Planet asked her about the cover:
J*GM: The third track on the album “Since Yesteray” right? Is that how it began?
T: Yeah. =) Well I guess it would have been fine if we covered it as BuriGuri but the musical style would have changed, and if I was going to go to the trouble of doing it, I thought I may as well do it solo with a concept. And if I was gonna go ahead and release it, it would probably be better to do an original song then a cover.
J*GM: Did you like Strawberry Switchblade?
T: Not enough to buy their albums or anything, but this song has been lying around in me for a long time, and I’ve always wanted to try singing it. Of course I don’t know how it would really sound but, immediately after I heard the song it was like going round and round. I liked that about it.

A six cassette collection of tracks recovered from the damaged computer of Travis Miller (aka Lil Ugly Mane, aka Shawn Kemp) in 2013. Very limited edition (reportedly 85 copies), 3 cassettes in each of 2 volumes. The tracks on the other side of a tape were the same as the first side but played backwards.
