This time last month Strawberry Switchblade were just another bunch of chart hopefuls, albeit slightly more colourful than your average Joes.
Now suddenly these self-confessed ‘scabby witches from Scotland’ find themselves the centre of attention. Their single ‘Since Yesterday’ settled comfortably in the charts, courted by luminaries like Janice Long and Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart, Rose McDowell [sic] and Jill Bryson seem set to Make It Big.
Cat-lovers and flower-fanciers, the Strawberries both hail from Glasgow, although both are now settled in North London. Their debut LP ‘Strawberry Switchblade’ will be out at the end of January. ‘Full of good tunes’ reckons Rose.
They haven’t quite got over Delia Smith calling them ‘miserable’ on a recent Saturday Superstore, but they don’t need to worry: their bittersweet pop ditties will ensure the polka-dotted twosome a place in many an old romantic’s heart.
Just close your eyes and then remember
The thoughts you’ve locked away
When tomorrow comes you’ll wish
You had today
Chorus:
And as we sit here alone
Looking for a reason to go on
It’s so clear that all we have now
Are our thoughts of yesterday
If you’re still there when it’s all over
I’m scared I’ll have to say
That a part of you has gone
Since yesterday
Repeat chorus
Well maybe this could be the ending
with nothing left of you
A hundred wishes couldn’t say
I don’t want to
Repeat chorus
It’s so clear that all we have now are thoughts
Of yesterday, are thoughts of yesterday
