STRAWBERRY SWITCHBLADE
‘Since Yesterday‘ (Korova)
A year on from their fine debut ‘Trees and Flowers‘ and no less elaborate in its presentation, ‘Since Yesterday’ nevertheless dispenses with the tender Velvets pastiche of yore and settles for a hamstrung Linndrum-driven stab at the pop mainstream.
A costly move in my opinion, but if this more rigorous instrumentation forces Bryson and McDowell [sic] to tighten up their sorry live shows, then maybe it’s not such a bad thing.
